What does this treatment help with?

Microneedling, AKA 𝗖𝗼𝗹𝗹𝗮𝗴𝗲𝗻 𝗜𝗻𝗱𝘂𝗰𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗧𝗵𝗲𝗿𝗮𝗽𝘆, helps treat the appearance of acne scars, acne, hyperpigmentation, skin laxity, fine lines/wrinkles, texture, stretch marks, and overall improving in skin quality.

How does the treatment work?

Microneedling creates controlled micro-injuries to stimulate the body’s natural wound healing response, while minimizing cellular damage (Alster & Graham, 2018). The body’s natural wound healing cascade stimulates growth factors, increases cell turnover, collagen, and elastin. Bespoke Rx uses the SkinPen, which is the first FDA approved microneedling device. Patients typically tolerate the procedure very well, with minimal discomfort, and return to normal activities after 24-48 hours.

How may treatments do I need?

Collagen production takes time, and best results are typically seen with multiple treatments (Liebl & Kloth, 2013). For typical antiaging concerns, many patients will do a set of 3 microneedling treatments per year. For cases with more severe skin concerns ie scarring, more sessions may be suggested, and/or a combination approach with chemical peels may be suggested. With scarring, multiple treatments are often necessary to break up the adhesions of scar tissue, promote the collagen and new tissue growth (Liebl & Kloth, 2013). Treatments are scheduled at least 4 weeks apart.

What is the difference between at home dermal rollers and microneedling?

At home dermal rollers typically reach depths of 0.2-0.3 mm, and can have concerns with cleanliness (lack of sterility), and irregularity in depth of penetration (as the user is apply to self at home). Medical microneedling is typically 0.5 - 3 mm deep, reaching the dermal-epidermal junction. Microneedling treatments with the SkinPen keep patients safe by eliminating the risk of cross contamination.

Are there any past treatment instructions?

Swelling and redness typically subside within 24 - 48 hours post procedure.  Patients should not wear makeup, exercise, go out in the sun, and should avoid extreme heat for 24 hours.  After needling of any kind, post treatment skincare regimen is of great importance. With microneedling we purposefully break the skin barrier to stimulate the body’s response. With the barrier broken, we must use products designed for, and safe for, greater absorption. Many products are designed for intact skin, with a lower absorption rate. The skincare regimen has the potential to enhance results, as well as cause adverse reactions such as allergic reactions, granulomas. This is why we work with patients on a specific post treatment skincare regimen. Some ingredients that could cause issues include: preservatives, fragrances, surfactants, emulsifiers, emollients, humectants, acids, dyes/coloring agents, UV filters (Setterfield, 2017).

Will this treatment hurt?

It is a relatively painless, quick procedure with minimal downtime. Your Tampa Microneedling Specialist will apply topical numbing and allow it to take effect prior to the treatment. Typically patients find it quite tolerable and have expressed that they expected the discomfort was much less than what they had expected.
